 The Settle - Carlisle Railway

Garsdale Station and Midland Railway Cottages

The terrace of cottages at Garsdale was built to house the railway workers at Hawes Junction (now Garsdale) which was a busy location with the branch line to Hawes coming in from the east. It was also the place where banking engines were turned for their return to Settle or Appleby. The photo was taken from the Coal Road which runs over the fell southwards to Dent station. It is not a road to be tackled in the winter snow! 10/07/01
